Biology Evolution - "Just A Myth"?

Biological evolution shows us how a creature can adapt and has adapted over time. If any particular species could not adapt (change, or evolve), it would become extinct quickly because the environment is changing all of the time. The changes in a species happen so that the species can have a better chance of survival. Many species have done so throughout the time of life's existence on earth. For instance, there is a species of moths that have developed ears that are especially sensitive to the sound frequencies in which bats use to hunt the moths. The moths have adapted to their environment by developing sonar abilities, like the bats. The moths were not equipped with this ability before adaptation occurred. This long process has made this particular moth species stronger and the chance of survival better. The adaptation does not happen overnight. It evolves over generations. Changes happen slowly.

Air Pollution/ Lung Adaptation

Our species cannot evolve fast enough to keep up with the ever-changing pollutants. It takes generations of changes in the genetic makeup of a population. Sometimes this may take billions of years. Air pollutants vary widely from city to city, state to state, and so on. The human species' lungs cannot evolve to detoxify each individual toxin if each environment is different. People are exposed to different toxins and pollutants depending on where they live (their habitat). The species would have to evolve as a whole. Evolution does not occur in a single individual alone, but in a complete species. If the human species were able to adapt quickly, there is a good possibility that cancer would be eradicated from our species. The flu virus adapts; changing to become immune to vaccinations. The virus becomes stronger as the human race tries to prevent just that. However, the human species is a more complex system than that of the flu virus.. Being a simple organism, the flu virus has only minute changes to make in order to adapt differently to the vaccinations' makeup. There is no possible way, therefore, for the human body to adapt and be able to detoxify air pollution. These changes would simply take too long.

Toilet Training Your Ferret

So your little rascal is leaving gifts all over the house?

Luckily ferrets can be trained to use a litter tray just like cats. They are very intelligent and like to be clean, so they should pick it up quickly. Your whole family should be involved in your ferret training. You can begin ferret litter training any time, although the sooner you start, the happier you and your ferret will be.

Even if you have not trained your ferret you will notice that he will pick a spot, usually in a private corner somewhere, and return to that spot when he has to poop. Ferrets do not relate having their noses rubbed in their poop with the fact that they missed the pan, so please don't do it. Ferrets do not cover their waste, so scooping is a daily necessity and will help minimize odour. Ferrets are more likely to use a clean pan. You will find that ferrets who feel their litter box isn't clean enough will often go next to it.

Training

Training techniques must be adapted to individual personalities, but some basic principles apply. Put some feces into your ferret's new pan and then put him in there. He will probably have a sniff around and should get the idea. If you see him go to the pan and go to the toilet praise and maybe even offer a healthy treat.

If he goes outside of the pan, do not scold him. Simply place him and his poop into the pan. Eventually he should get it. For some older ferrets this may take time. Most of the time, gently reminding him where the litter box is can be enough.

Litter

Clumping cat litters should not be used, unless you place the powder under other forms of litter so the ferret does not have access to the clumping litter (make sure the ferret is not a digger). Some ferrets don't like the feel of clay litter between their toes. Additionally, ferrets "wipe their bottoms" after using their litter pan, and clumping litter particles can adhere to the ferret, and absorb too much moisture from soft tissue. Most of the time, gently reminding him where the litter box is can be enough.

Be careful not to use anything that will give off dust particles.

In conclusion it may take some time, but it will be worth it when you have a fully toilet trained ferret running around the house. Maybe then you could move onto some other more advanced training?

Exotic Pets - Top 5

Often people look for a pet that is out of the ordinary. Sometimes a normal cat or dog just wont do! Though, it is always wise to know what youre getting into. Here, then, are the top five non-traditional pets:

5. Scorpions

There are many species of this particular creature, and the strength of their venom varies between species. The most commonly found pet species, the emperor scorpion, is not particularly dangerous. Its sting can be compared with that of a bee or wasp, though like bees, there is a chance of an allergic reaction.

Scorpions do not require a great amount of care, but are not an ideal pet. Handling a scorpion is not a good idea Besides the risk of its sting, scorpions become very stressed when handled, a health risk to the creature itself. Also, the animals can live up to 8 years, making them a long-term commitment kind of pet.

4. Cockroaches

Hissing Cockroaches These insects are great for beginner pet-owners! They are quite docile and require little maintenance. Though theyre not of the cute and cuddly variety of pet, they are quite interesting. They hiss when disturbed, and males will hiss while courting a female. Sometimes, for reasons unknown, the entire colony will hiss in unison.

Hissing Cockroaches are best kept in a large tank with wood shavings. Water and fresh fruit and vegetables are all they require. They are hardy creatures and can live up to five years.

3. Tarantulas

This fascinating creature has become a more popular pet in recent years. There still remains some fear in potential owners, though keeping a tarantula as a pet is often more harmful to the animal than to the pet owner. Tarantulas can die even from a short fall, if their abdomen ruptures.

Tarantulas are venomous, but in most species, the toxicity of their venom is akin to a bee or wasp sting. In some cases, a person can have an allergic reaction to spider bites, in much the same way that some react to bee stings.

There are hundreds of species of tarantula, and some are more aggressive than others, so potential owners really need to do research before purchasing one. Tarantulas are fascinating, quiet, and in most cases, need little space.

2. Ants

Purchasing an ant farm is the easiest and simplest way to keep and maintain this interesting pet. With an ant farm, you only need to feed your ants once per week, making them a very low-maintenance pet. A small crumb of bread soaked in sugar water is enough to feed your whole colony for a week!

1. Rats

Rats have a life-span of two to three years and are considered quite social and intelligent. They are also easy to tame and are very gentle. Though they are nocturnal, they tend to adapt to their owners schedule. Due to their social nature, they should also be kept with other rats.

Rat owners compare their care to that of a dog they require a lot of attention and at least an hour of exercise per day. These curious and playful pets are easy to care for, but not necessarily low-maintenance.

Mars Coming To Large View - Is This Hoax Amnesia Or Ignorance

This phenomenon occurred last year (and in 2003), so this means that the next occurrence is in 2007, not this year. This e-mail is such a classic example of a hoax, that it is totally unbelievable that people still fall for this and distributes these lies to everyone they know. The e-mail states "This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars". It takes Earth 365 days to complete an orbit around the sun. Earth's orbital track is smaller than the orbital track of Mars, therefore it takes Mars longer to complete an orbit around the sun. Now explain to me how do Mars orbit around the sun twice in a matter of two months?

"Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again." It looks like the creators of this e-mail could not make up their minds about how long it will take for the next occurrence. The year 2287 is 281 years from now, almost 3 century's, now they suddenly speak of 60 millenniums. There are references to several scientific words and phrases in this e-mail that only a NASA scientist will understand, so how is it possible that they can't do simple maths while they possess the knowledge of an astrologist? NASA states that Earth has not been this close to Mars for the last 60000 years, I guess that is what got them mixed up.

"The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth". Notice how they don't reference the year. This makes it extremely easy to use the same message next year and the years thereafter. It will be really silly if people forward this e-mail in September, but it is not impossible, people tend to miss little details like this because they read their mail like zombies, they don't always think about what they read. This is maybe the biggest reason why we get so many spam and chain letters forwarded to our inboxes these days.

"Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye."

I guess once Mars looks as large as the full moon we should start worrying seriously.
